Cladding, 2024

Gelatin silver print baryta, Eylets, Wood
210 x 100 x 60 cm

This sculpture, created during an artist residency, is made from baryta paper and covered in shingles from Salzburg. Entitled Cladding, the work explores the concept of façades and their protective function, as well as the boundaries between the private and the public. By transforming the wall into a wearable object, the static form becomes performative: one can 'wear images' and experiment with the realities they evoke.
The work also reflects on impermanence: the wood will age and turn grey over time, while the recycled materials offer new possibilities. Created in a medieval castle, the piece navigates the tension between durability and change, construction and decay. The piece invites interpretation, residing between the realms of the body, architecture and the symbolic layers through which we experience and question reality.
