Cicada, 2025

Aluminium, Eylets, Elasticband
21 x 10 x 15 cm

This work is an aluminium mask featuring a cicada covering the face. The cicada is known for its metallic, vibrating sounds and becomes a symbol of perception and communication. It reveals and conceals simultaneously, allowing some impressions to enter consciousness while silencing others.

The mask plays with the idea of 'wearing' the animal: one's own voice is silenced and perception shifts. By placing the cicada on the face, the work explores the boundaries between the human and the non-human, the self and the environment. It highlights how sound shapes experiences and perception, and how some aspects of the world remain beyond articulation.

In a world dominated by images, the work brings pure acoustics to the fore. Those who approach the cicada experience a reverse effect: proximity no longer enables precise observation, but rather encourages letting go and listening. The mask offers a perspective that oscillates between focus and detachment, control and resonance, providing a space for individual perception and reflection.
